Irene Ferreras leaves Granada after equalling the club’s Liga F points record

The club has attributed the termination of her contract to personal reasons. Ferreras departs after one season, with pre-season already under way and Granada rebuilding a squad affected by more than a dozen departures. Adrián Martín takes charge.

Irene Ferreras has left her position as Granada head coach.

The club announced on Friday that both parties had agreed to terminate her contract. The official statement attributed the decision to “personal reasons on the coach’s part” and provided no further details about her departure.

Ferreras leaves after only one season.

The Madrid-born coach arrived in the summer of 2025 to replace Arturo Ruiz and oversaw 31 matches across Liga F and the Copa de la Reina. Granada finished sixth and equalled their highest points total in the top flight.

That finish followed a difficult start.

Granada ended 2025 close to the relegation battle, but their situation changed from January onwards. They won seven of their first nine matches of the year, secured their Liga F status with several games remaining and lost only four times during the entire second half of the season.

Ferreras was subsequently named the best coach of the 2025/26 campaign at the Coach Experience Summit Awards.

Her departure, however, comes after preparations for the new season had already begun.

Granada started pre-season on 16 July with a squad still being rebuilt. More than a dozen players have left the club this summer, including Lauri Requena, Laura Pérez, Sonya Keefe, Alba Pérez and Ari Mingueza.

According to AS, financial limitations and the lack of resources available to the women’s team influenced Ferreras’s decision. The outlet also reports that Granada’s Liga F side remains behind both the men’s first team and reserve side Recreativo Granada when it comes to accessing training pitches, training times and gym facilities.

That information does not appear in the official statement, which presents personal reasons as the only explanation for the termination of her contract.

Adrián Martín, Granada’s assistant coach for the past two seasons, will take charge. He was part of the coaching staff that finished fifth and reached the Copa de la Reina semi-finals in 2024/25, before remaining with the team throughout Ferreras’s campaign.

Granada therefore lose their head coach after equalling the club’s points record and now face a double reconstruction: rebuilding a squad that has lost many of its leading figures and reorganising the dugout with pre-season already under way.
