As Celtas will play their first official Copa de la Reina match in September.
The first-round draw handed the Vigo side a single-leg knockout tie against Real Avilés Industrial, scheduled to be played between 8 and 10 September. The fixture doubles as an immediate league preview: the two clubs will also meet on the opening day of the Segunda Federación season the preceding weekend.
Foundation and a summer handover in the dugout
Celta de Vigo established their women’s section in May 2024, when club president Marián Mouriño completed the takeover of Unión Deportiva Mos. The deal gave Celta a spot in the fourth-tier Tercera Federación along with a ready-made youth academy, including reserve, cadet, and youth squads.
Under head coach Vicky Vázquez, the team enjoyed an emphatic 2024/25 debut season: 6,534 spectators attended their league bow at Balaídos on 7 September 2024, setting the tone for an immediate promotion to Segunda Federación. After a steady 2025/26 campaign in the third tier, the club reshuffled its coaching staff in May 2026. David Ferreiro, who had previously managed reserve side As Celtas Sporting and served as Vázquez’s assistant, stepped up to lead the first team, while Vázquez took charge of the reserves in Tercera Federación.

Straight to penalties: the cup format
The RFEF format for the Copa de la Reina scraps extra time in the opening rounds: any tie level after 90 minutes goes directly to a penalty shootout.
The 48-team knockout competition offers third-tier sides a route to face Primera Federación and Liga F opponents in later rounds.
