Sarah Brasero will spend the 2026/27 season on loan at Deportivo Alavés.
The 21-year-old midfielder joins from West Ham, where she signed a contract until 2028 last summer after impressing in Portugal. Her first season in London, however, did not provide her with regular playing time in the Women’s Super League.
Brasero appeared in six league matches, all as a substitute, and played a total of 17 minutes. She was more involved in the cup competitions, finishing the season with 12 appearances and two goals across all competitions.
The first came in September, on her first start for West Ham, during a 1-5 League Cup victory over Charlton. She scored again against Newcastle in January, helping her side to a 0-3 win in the FA Cup.
The loan move to Alavés now offers her the opportunity to play more regularly while remaining under contract with the English club.
West Ham signed her in July 2025 after an impressive season with Estoril. Brasero made 23 appearances in the Portuguese top flight, scoring five goals and providing three assists from midfield.
Moving to Portugal had already represented an important decision in her career.
Born in Norwich, Brasero developed at Ipswich Town and made her first-team debut at the age of 16. She played 43 matches for the club before joining Lewes, where she made 17 appearances in the English second tier during the 2023/24 season. A year later, she left England for the first time to join Estoril.
Her progress also earned her recognition at international level. She represented England at under-19 level and received her first under-23 call-up in 2024.
Alavés have added a young midfielder capable of contributing to the build-up and making runs into the box, with experience in England and Portugal.
The move is not a permanent departure from West Ham. The loan allows the English club to retain a player contracted until 2028 while giving Alavés a midfielder with youth international experience. For Brasero, the aim will be to turn the potential that took her to the WSL into regular playing time.
