Athletic are yet to score in pre-season.
Deportivo Alavés have already found the net seven times, four of them across two 45-minute matches.
The two sides meet in the first EH Kopa semi-final on Saturday. The match kicks off at 18:30 CEST at Basarte in Amurrio, with the winners advancing to the final.
Unlike Athletic’s previous three friendlies, this one has something at stake. Victory will send them into Wednesday’s final, while defeat will lead to the third-place match.
Athletic began their preparations with a goalless draw against Deportivo Abanca in Luanco. They then lost 0-1 to Costa Adeje Tenerife in Tafalla before drawing 0-0 with Logroño United in Medina de Pomar.
Víctor Martín’s side have kept two clean sheets in three outings but go into the semi-final still waiting for their first goal.
Alavés have scored in every friendly
Deportivo Alavés return to Liga F having enjoyed a more productive pre-season in front of goal.
Las Gloriosas opened with a 2-0 victory over Osasuna before losing 1-2 to Costa Adeje Tenerife. On Wednesday, they won the Copa Sentimiento, a triangular tournament made up of 45-minute matches. They beat Osasuna 3-0 and drew 1-1 with Real Sociedad.
That leaves Andrea Esteban’s side with seven goals and at least one in each of their four pre-season outings, although two were shortened matches.
The game in Amurrio will be their third test against Liga F opposition following their meetings with Costa Adeje Tenerife and Real Sociedad. Alavés begin their league campaign at home to Valencia, the other newly promoted side, on the weekend of 29 and 30 August.
A place in Wednesday’s final
Athletic and Alavés kick off at 18:30 CEST at Basarte, with Athletic designated as the home side.
The winners will play in the EH Kopa final at Stadium Gal in Irún on Wednesday 19 August at 19:00. Their opponents will be either Real Sociedad or SD Eibar, who contest the second semi-final at Txerloia on Sunday at 19:00.
The beaten side will also return to action on Wednesday, playing for third place at Basarte at 18:30, according to Athletic’s published schedule.

The EH Kopa —the Euskal Herria Kopa— reaches its sixteenth edition this year and pays tribute to Leire Landa, a former footballer from Irún who played for Real Sociedad, Athletic, Barcelona and Atlético Madrid. Wednesday’s final falls in the centenary year of Stadium Gal.
