Liga F has its calendar for the 2026/27 season. The championship will begin on the weekend of 29 and 30 August and finish on 23 May, after 30 matchdays and 240 fixtures.
The schedule will be asymmetrical: the second half of the season will not repeat the first in the same order with the home teams reversed. There will also be two midweek rounds, matchdays 13 and 29, during a campaign shaped by European competition and preparations for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.
The draw immediately produced two dates to circle. Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid will open the competition with a derby at the home of the white club, while the first Barcelona-Real Madrid meeting will arrive on the weekend of 4 October, after only five rounds have been completed.
A Madrid derby to open the season
The headline match of the opening round will be Real Madrid against Atlético de Madrid. The two teams meet at the start of the championship and will face one another again on 14 February, on matchday 20, with Atlético at home.
The opening matchday consists of these eight fixtures:
- Deportivo Alavés-Valencia CF
- Athletic Club-FC Badalona Women
- Deportivo Abanca-Sevilla FC
- SD Eibar-RCD Espanyol
- FC Barcelona-Costa Adeje Tenerife
- Madrid CFF-Granada CF
- Real Madrid CF-Atlético de Madrid
- Real Sociedad-DUX Logroño
The first round also brings together the two promoted clubs. Deportivo Alavés and Valencia meet as both return to the top flight.
Defending champions Barcelona will host Costa Adeje Tenerife, who finished fourth last season. Deportivo Abanca begin against Sevilla, while Eibar and Espanyol open with a meeting between two clubs that spent much of the previous campaign fighting to stay in the division.
The first Barcelona-Real Madrid meeting comes in October
Barcelona and Real Madrid will meet for the first time on the weekend of 4 October, on matchday six, with the Catalan side at home.
The return fixture will be played in Madrid on 21 February, during matchday 21. The first game arrives very early; the second comes once the competition has entered its decisive stage.
The fixture brings together the top two teams from the previous Liga F season. Their most recent league meeting also set a new audience record for the competition.
Six meetings between Madrid’s three clubs
Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid and Madrid CFF will once again produce six direct meetings during the campaign.
In addition to the two Real Madrid-Atlético derbies, Madrid CFF will face Real Madrid on 9 December, during the midweek matchday 13, and on 2 May, on matchday 27.
The two games between Madrid CFF and Atlético are scheduled for 18 October, on matchday seven, and 21 February, on matchday 21.
Barcelona and Atlético meet again in September
Another of the season’s biggest fixtures will arrive early. Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid meet on 13 September, on matchday three, with Barça at home.
The return match will be played on 13 January, on matchday 17, with Atlético hosting. It comes only a few days before the Spanish Super Cup, scheduled between 19 and 24 January.
The two teams also met in the most recent Copa de la Reina final, which Barcelona won 3-1.
Four Basque representatives
Deportivo Alavés’ promotion increases the number of Basque clubs in Liga F to four: Athletic Club, Real Sociedad, SD Eibar and Alavés.
Real Sociedad and Athletic meet on 15 November, on matchday 11, with the San Sebastián side at home. The return fixture will be played on 14 February, on matchday 20, with Athletic hosting.
The Gipuzkoa derby between Eibar and Real Sociedad begins on 8 November, on matchday 10, at Eibar’s home ground. The return takes place on 31 January, on matchday 18, with Real Sociedad at home.
Alavés’ return will add even more regional fixtures to the season.
Andalusia and Catalonia also look to the calendar
Sevilla and Granada will again contest the division’s two Andalusian meetings. The first will be played on 9 December, on matchday 13, with Sevilla at home. The return follows on 21 February, on matchday 21, in Granada.
Catalonia will have three representatives: Barcelona, Espanyol and FC Badalona Women.
Barcelona and Espanyol meet on 9 December, on matchday 13, with Barça at home. The second fixture will be played on 2 May, on matchday 27, at Espanyol’s home ground.
FC Badalona Women will host Barcelona on 1 November, on matchday nine, before visiting the Catalan side on 31 January, on matchday 18.
The two Espanyol-Badalona games will be played on 6 September, on matchday two, with Espanyol at home, and 28 March, on matchday 24, with Badalona hosting.
Two midweek matchdays
The first midweek round will be matchday 13, scheduled for 9 December. Several notable fixtures will take place that day, including Barcelona-Espanyol, Sevilla-Granada and Madrid CFF-Real Madrid.
The second comes on matchday 29, close to the end of the championship. Clubs will have to play twice within a few days while the title, European qualification and survival may still be undecided.

A season shaped by the cup, Europe and the World Cup
Liga F will operate within a particularly demanding football calendar. The Spanish Super Cup will be played between 19 and 24 January, while the Copa de la Reina final is scheduled for 15 May.
The UEFA Women’s Champions League phase will begin on 22 September and finish on 16 December. The final is scheduled between 27 and 29 May. The UEFA Women’s Europa Cup will conclude on 9 May.
The domestic season will lead into the 2027 World Cup in Brazil, scheduled from 24 June to 25 July. Before the tournament, the federation calendar reserves several international periods for Spain’s competitive and preparatory matches.
Almost nine months will separate the opening Madrid derby from the final round on 23 May. Between them will come 240 fixtures, two midweek dates and several simultaneous races: for the title, for Europe and to avoid relegation.
