Liga F has opened a new tender for all its broadcast rights from the 2026/27 season.
Operators can submit bids covering three, four or five seasons. Liga F will be able to choose the proposal and duration it considers most suitable, meaning the new cycle could run until 2030/31.
The main development is not only the potential length of the deal, but its starting date.
In September 2022, Liga F awarded DAZN the Spanish pay-TV and international rights for five seasons, from 2022/23 to 2026/27, for €35 million. Mediapro secured the weekly free-to-air match and highlights package.
The final season of that agreement is now included in the new tender. Liga F does not explain in its announcement how its contractual relationship with DAZN has been resolved, but the new terms cover rights from this season that the platform had acquired until June 2027.
Eight matches on pay TV and four also free-to-air
The Spanish rights have been divided into two packages.
The first includes all eight matches from each round, shown live on pay TV. Its successful bidder will hold the first, third, fifth and sixth selections each week.
The second offers four matches per round live, free-to-air and with nationwide coverage. These will correspond to the second, fourth, seventh and eighth selections and may also be shown simultaneously by the pay-TV operator.
Each package will include one of the two matches between Real Madrid and Barcelona every season.
The model builds upon the arrangement introduced during the second half of last season, when RTVE and TV3 joined the coverage and increased the number of free-to-air matches to four per round.
Separate sales for Europe and the rest of the world
Liga F has also opened two separate procedures for its international rights.
Operators may bid for the entire European Union, excluding Spain, or for individual countries. The same options are available for markets outside the EU, with Andorra excluded from that package.
Questions may be submitted until 3 August. Liga F will publish its answers two days later and accept bids until 1pm on 10 August. The reserve prices will remain confidential and deposited with Spain’s National Sports Council until the bids are opened.
Liga F first announced the tender on 29 June, after a qualified majority of its clubs approved the €55 million investment agreement with Gasol16 Ventures and Fortified Partners.
The process will determine who can broadcast Liga F during the season about to begin and how the market values the competition’s new broadcast cycle.
