Emilie Holt had been on the pitch for half an hour when HB Køge found one final opportunity to win.
The first leg of their Women’s Europa Cup tie against Farul Constanța was level at 2-2 and had entered stoppage time. Olivia García was fouled on the edge of the box and Holt, who had replaced Nadia Nadim on the hour mark, took responsibility.
The midfielder struck the ball with her left foot, low past the left-hand side of the wall. It found the net and gave HB Køge a 3-2 lead to take to Romania.
One week later, she began on the bench again.
Holt came on in the 58th minute and needed only five minutes to score. She received the ball on the left, drove inside and sent a long-range shot into the far top corner. The goal made it 0-3, took the aggregate score to 6-2 and ended the tie as a contest.
Two matches, two substitute appearances and two different finishes with the same foot.
Few sequences illustrate more clearly the kind of player Madrid CFF have signed.
When Brøndby recruited her four months later, Head of Women’s Football Kim André Pedersen described Holt as an attack-minded player with physical strength, good technique and a particularly dangerous left foot.
She had begun demonstrating those qualities much earlier.
Born on 27 January 2007, Holt developed at FC Nordsjælland before joining HB Køge only a few days after turning 16. In September 2023, she made her first-team debut in a Champions League qualifier against KÍ Klaksvík.
During her first year, she continued playing youth football while beginning to appear for the senior side. At the end of 2023, she was named HB Køge’s women’s talent of the year.
The next step was to turn early promise into goals.
Holt ended her time in Køge with 15 goals in 40 appearances. In the first half of the 2025/26 season alone, she played 13 matches and scored four times across all competitions.
Those figures are particularly striking for a player who is not a forward. Brøndby presented her as an attack-minded midfielder, while her goals against Farul demonstrated two specific weapons: her ability from set pieces and the threat she poses when driving infield from the left to shoot.
Her progress attracted Brøndby, who signed her in January 2026 on a contract running until the summer of 2028 and described her as one of the leading talents in Danish football.
The move ended a three-year spell with HB Køge and began another that proved much shorter than expected. Six months later, Holt leaves Brøndby to make the first move abroad of her career.
Her international development has progressed almost as quickly.
Holt made her Denmark debut at Under-16 level before moving up to the Under-17s and Under-19s. She has made 47 youth international appearances and scored six goals: seven matches for the Under-16s, 16 for the Under-17s and 24 for the Under-19s.
That rise does not disguise how much remains ahead of her. Holt is yet to make her senior international debut and, at 19, is moving to a new country and a new league.
She is not, however, arriving without senior experience.
Every step of her career has come early so far: she joined HB Køge at 16, made her European debut later that year, moved to Brøndby at 18 and leaves Denmark at 19.
Madrid CFF represent the next test in a fast-moving career. Holt’s qualities are already clear; her task now is to reproduce them consistently in Liga F.
