Spain had the game against Iceland wrapped up before half-time. The under-19 national team won 4-0 in Zenica, claimed their first victory of the European Championship and will head into their final group match with qualification for the semi-finals still in their own hands.
David Aznar’s side controlled the game from the start and opened the scoring in the 19th minute. Alba Cerrato reached the byline after running onto a through ball and pulled it back for Celia Segura to finish first time.
The second arrived just four minutes later. Adriana Folgado advanced down the right and cut the ball back for Rosalía Domínguez to double Spain’s lead.
Rosalía struck again in the 30th minute. Emma Moreno found the midfielder, who drove a right-footed effort into the far corner to complete her brace and make it 3-0.
Spain completed the scoring before the interval. In the 43rd minute, Alba Cerrato ran onto a ball in behind and surprised the Iceland goalkeeper with a shot from a tight angle at the near post.
All four goals came during a 24-minute spell that effectively settled the contest.
Aznar made three changes at half-time. Natalia Escot replaced Celia Segura, Iris Ashley came on for Alba Cerrato and Paula Redruello took the place of Ainoa Gómez. Lucía Rivas and Elene Gurtubay were also introduced later in the match.
The tempo dropped in the second half, although Spain remained in control, continued to threaten around the Iceland penalty area and created chances to extend their advantage. The score, however, did not change again.
The 4-0 victory gets Spain back on track after they failed to win their opening match. They will close the group stage against Austria in a decisive game for a place in the European Championship semi-finals.
